You've made it this far

Clearly we have some common interests, and here in the "About" page I'll tell you about my passion for photography, and what makes me tick. I'm always interested in learning and sharing, so please take a moment to fill out the comment form. I'm not much of a pen pal, but I'll do my best to keep up with each request. (within reason of course)

Ok, here's the deal: I don't care if you're a newbie who just bought his/her first camera or if you're an old pro. (If you're a pro you probably won't be here long) I don't care if you have the latest pro quality DSLR, or if you're a rabid film purist who only uses antique toy cameras. Black and white, color, or anything in between. Doesn't matter. I'm interested in exchanging ideas about it all. Anything goes! Hey, its my site, right?

In the beginning...

If you love photography like I do, you probably remember your first camera. I sure remember mine! It was a miniature 110 camera from Burger King. I think my dad picked it up for $1.99 or so. It only had one shutter speed and aperture, but it was all mine and I loved it. Ok ok, I can practically hear you laughing, but the truth is that I took some really great photos with this camera. Actually sometimes I think I took more interesting photos with this junk camera when I was a kid than I do now. Maybe it was the wide eyed perspective of a kid, maybe it was the camera, I dunno. I took it on my first real elementary school field trip and to my first (and only to date) Philadelphia Phillies game. Unfortunately this camera has been lost in the shuffle of time. I have owned other cameras similar to my beloved Burger King camera, but I never found them quite as impressive.

I
'll shoot with just about anything, and I buy a lot of cameras. As a matter of fact, I sort of pride myself on shooting with all of my cameras at least once. Yes, I've re-rolled 120 film onto 620 spools just to use my Kodak Duaflex III. Not worth the trouble you say? Well, to each his own I guess. Sometimes I like to shoot with those simple kinds of cameras. There are times when I never get the shot I want simply because I'm messing around with settings, and trying to get a "technically superior" photograph. Some of the best photos come when you let go of the details and just push the shutter button. A photographer friend of mine once said to me "when it stops being fun, I don't wanna do it anymore". I agree.

Cameras and interests...

I'll use everything from aging toy cameras to modern medium format or DSLR cameras. Heck, I’ve even been known to build a camera now and then. When I really want the shot to be perfect I reach for one of my SLRs. I’m a Pentaxian. A Pentax fan through and through. I might be biased because my first SLR was an old used H2, but I like the fact that I can still use those lenses on my new Digital SLR.

So like I said before, I have lots of photographic interests. Everything from Pinhole Photography to Infrared. I'd like to include more of my own photographs, but that will have to wait until I have a little more space on the server. You might have noticed the background images on the site. They are from a set of shots taken of my grandfather's pocket watch. Just for the record, you'll only find MY photos on the site. I will not steal any other photographer's work. I will link to all examples of others' work.

Ok, enough about me... shut up and shoot!
